I’ve had many people over the years tell me how important stretching is, especially when you are training BJJ or any other sport/ exercise that is hard on the body. This is something that I personally have a hard time with because I would never like to take the extra time out of my day to stretch, but it is something that is so important for your body if you want to train hard and increase your flexibility and mobility on and off of the mats.

Stretching has so many health benefits and keeps you feeling good whether you’re training hard or not training at all. Stretching before and after your training can:

  1. Minimize risks of personal injury
  2. Helps with relieving soreness the day after a workout
  3. Improves flexibility and mobility, not only for yourself but also for your training partners.
  4. Increases blood supply and oxygen to the body before training.
  5. Helps with posture correction and focus (one of the benefits that stretching and yoga both have in common)
  6. Helps cool down your body after an intense training session

Over the years, it seems like everyone complains about the same types of pain at Supremacy BJJ and gyms all over the place. These pain areas would be: the neck, back (mainly lower), hips, and legs.
